2018 Syrah, Santa Barbara County

Our 2018 Reserve Syrah is a big, round red wine with a classic fruity profile. The color is a red so entrancingly deep, it approaches black and hints at complexities to follow. On the nose, more earthy tones rise out of the glass than previous vintages and allow the oak to shine through. Layers of dark cherry, black raspberry and pomegranate create the plush, delicious palate with aromas of pepper and a floral finish. The tannins are slightly silty now and nearing leathery. A slight hint of black olive brine is also present and will develop more with age. Our winemaker Jane Dunkley gives her Australian roots a nod and enjoys this wine with vegemite. She also suggests pairing with ramen layered with fatty meat (like duck) and sliced mushrooms.
