2017 Pinot Noir Santa Rita Hills

Our Bridlewood Santa Rita Hills Pinot Noir is a riper, bolder version of this wine style indicative of the 2017 vintage. The aromas of wood smoke and wet earth are layered with notes of dried florals that lift the bouquet. The palate is concentrated and intense, showing dark fruit supported by hints of salt water taffy-like French oak finishing with a sense of minerality from complex Santa Rita soils.

 

Wine Tips:

We selected the fruit for this 2017 Pinot Noir from one premier site in the Santa Rita Hills. With a size of only 100 square miles, the Santa Rita Hills AVA is known to produce one-of-a-kind, cool-climate Pinot Noir wines. The Pinot Noir grapes are grown close to the Santa Ynez River and experience frequent cooling breezes throughout the growing season, which extended their time on the vine and created a delicious balance. The 2017 harvest in California was early, with a mostly normal yield of exceptional quality fruit throughout the state. The grapes for this wine were 100% hand-harvested early in the morning. We sourced fruit from two separate blocks of clone 667 and 777 fermented separately in open-top tanks to allow for gentle extraction. ~15% whole cluster was used in each fermenter to provide greater complexity in this unique wine. The wine was aged in French oak barrels for 11 months then individual barrels were selected to craft the final cuvée.
